Der Branche der elektronischen Mess-, Steuer- und Reg-
lungstechnik können in Thüringen weit über 500 Unter-
nehmen und mehr als zehn Forschungseinrichtungen
zugeordnet werden.
The metrology and control engineering industry in
Thuringia is represented by well over 500 companies
and more than 10 research institutions.
Companies, active in this field generate a yearly tur-
nover of 1.5 billion Euros, with their 15000 employe-
es. In 2007, the ELMUG industry cluster initiative was
launched. Today, ELMUG as a registered cooperative,
consolidates the activities of developers, manufactu-
rers, suppliers and service providers from 70 compa-
nies and research institutions from this important
Thuringian sector. From originally 9 founding mem-
bers, the number of cooperative members has doubled
to 18. Since it opened it's offices in June 2009, the net-
work has worked intensively and the perception of the
sector in Thuringia has risen considerably. Together,
the members want to build on their strong technolo-
gy position, further develop their market position and
master the increasingly challenging skilled worker si-
tuation. “In a good network, product development is
quicker, the value chain is better integrated, it is sim-
ply much faster to market,” states Olaf Mollenhauer,
the managing director of TETRA in Ilmenau and depu-
ty chairman of the board of ELMUG.
The members are increasing confident with each ot-
her and the number of tasks, they are willing to dis-
cuss and solve, is growing. An example of this is the
division of labour. As a result, a full-time position can
be created in the network. Subsequently, the job is
very attractive. The companies and research instituti-
ons operate in a total of 6 specialised groups (EMC and
instrument engineering, direct drive technology, power
electronics, laboratory equipment, building services
engineering, sensor technology). It is in these specia-
lised groups that impending problems are discussed,
experiences are exchanged and collective R&D pro-
jects are initiated and expedited. An example of one
of the current projects is the development of a 'smart
home service', with an estimated investment of 7.5
million Euros. “Efficient cooperation is required for any
innovative and complex products and system soluti-
ons. In this sense, ELMUG is a very good platform for
us,” so says prof. Tobias Reimann, a member of the IS-
LE executive board. Many tasks faced by entrepreneurs
can be solved more effectively by working together. In
the five existing working groups (management of skil-
led employees, technology policy, cluster marketing,
financing and purchasing cooperative partnerships)
comprehensive issues are dealt with collectively. This
is an excellent opportunity to exchange information in
an atmosphere of trust and to collectively find soluti-
ons to existing problems.

schäftigten und einem Jahresumsatz von über 1,5 Milliarden Euro.
2007
startete die Industriecluster-Initiative ELMUG. Heute bündelt
ELMUG als eingetragene Genossenschaft die Aktivitäten von Entwick-
lern, Herstellern, Anbietern sowie Dienstleistern aus 70 Unternehmen
und Forschungseinrichtungen dieser wichtigen Thüringer Branche.
Aus neun Gründungsmitgliedern sind inzwischen 18 Genossenschafts-
mitglieder geworden. Seit der Eröffnung der Geschäftsstelle im Juni
2009
und der damit verbundenen, intensiveren Arbeit des Netzwerkes
ist die Wahrnehmung der Branche in Thüringen wesentlich gestiegen.
Die Mitglieder wollen gemeinsam ihre ausgezeichnete Technologie-
position ausbauen, die Marktposition verbessern und die schwieriger
werdende Fachkräftesituation meistern. „In einem guten Netzwerk
geht die Produktentwicklung schneller, ist man in Wertschöpfungs-
ketten wesentlich besser eingebunden und einfach fixer am Markt“,
so Olaf Mollenhauer, der Geschäftsführer der TETRA GmbH aus
Ilmenau und stellvertretender Aufsichtsratsvorsitzender der
ELMUG eG.
Erfahrungsaustausch löst Probleme
Mit zunehmendem Vertrauen der Mitglieder untereinander wachsen
die Aufgaben, die sie bereit sind, gemeinsam zu diskutieren und zu
lösen. Ein Beispiel hierfür ist die Arbeitskräfteteilung. Dadurch kann
im Netzwerk eine Vollzeitstelle für die Fachkraft geschaffen werden.
Das Stellenangebot wird folglich attraktiver. Die Unternehmen und
Forschungseinrichtungen arbeiten in insgesamt sechs Fachgruppen
(
EMV- & Gerätetechnik, Direktantriebstechnik, Leistungselektronik,
Labortechnik/-geräte, Gebäudetechnik, Sensortechnik) zusammen. In
den Fachgruppen werden anstehende fachliche Probleme diskutiert
Erfahrungen ausgetauscht und gemeinsame F&E-Projekte initiiert
und vorangetrieben.
So umfassen die aktuellen Vorhaben zur Entwicklung des Systems
„
Smart Home Service“ beispielsweise ein Projektvolumen von etwa
7,5
Millionen Euro. „Zukünftige innovative und komplexe Produkt-
und Systemlösungen erfordern leistungsfähige Kooperationen. In
diesem Sinne ist ELMUG für uns eine sehr gute Plattform“, so Prof. Dr.
Tobias Reimann, Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung der ISLE GmbH.
